Why Are All My Socks Pink?
End of Navigation
1: Separate
- whites with whites
- darks with darks
- sheets and towels
- dry clean only? Take it to the dry cleaner!
2: Load
- load only medium to full capacity
- do not overload (clothes get clean by having room to swish around)
- don't get wool wet
- don't load any "dry clean only" items
3: Water
- never wash anything in hot water if you don't want it to shrink!
- wash whites and lights in warm water
- wash darks in cold water
- if in doubt, wash in cold water
4: Soap
- make sure to use soap!
- read directions on the package
- use no more than the suggested amount (more is not better)
- use specialty soaps for specialty jobs
5: Bleach
- bleach whites only
- be careful not to splatter bleach on anything
- use the suggested amount on the package (too much will turn fabric yellow)
- if in doubt, do not use bleach!
6: Softener
- Option A: add liquid softener to rinse cycle (use amount stated on package)
- Option B: put a fabric softener sheet in the dryer
- Option C: do both
7: Drying
- don't put shrinkable items in the dryer (hang them up to drip or air dry)
- dry items on medium to high temperature
- if something still has a stain after washing it, do not dry it because the stain will set
