Student Health provides health care to all registered students regardless of their insurance coverage. We are a primary care facility with limited specialties. Referrals to the community are provided whenever it is necessary. We are located on campus across from the Events Center--halfway between the residence halls and Isla Vista. In addition to medical services, educational services (see Educational Services below) are provided to help students become healthy and stay healthy. We are open year round Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm, with limited services from 12-1pm. You may access our web site at http://studenthealth.sa.ucsb.edu/ for current health information, after hours and emergency care, a chance to meet our staff practitioners, insurance information, and student opportunities to become involved at Student Health.

S.T.A.R. (Students Teaching Alcohol and other drug Responsibility) Interns are trained through our academic classes and offer presentations on alcohol, other drugs and stress.
Drugs
Both prescription and "street" (illegal) drugs affect people in different ways and you never know how they are going to affect you. Most UCSB students don't do "hard drugs" but getting the real facts from a reliable source can go a long way when making choices. Free, confidential and non-judgmental information or help is available. For an appointment with a professional counselor call 893-3371.
Tobacco
Ready to quit? Student Health can help and offers FREE individual and group cessation counseling and nicotine replacement products. Call 893-2630 for more info.
Sexual Health & Relationships
Whether you're having sex, or wanting to wait before having sex there is a lot to know: sexually transmitted infection (STI) protection, birth control and how to talk with a partner. Whether you're sexually active or not, good communication is important...with your friends, health care providers, family, and your partner. Student Health offers services to promote healthy sexual relationships through effective communication, birth control and sexually transmitted infection education, testing and other preventative health care exams. Free confidential information and/or help is available. For an appointment with a professional counselor call 893-3371. Sex and Relationship Interns are trained through our academic classes and offer fun presentations and support.
Nutrition
To perform well, and feel good, we all know you need to eat right. Making it happen is another story, especially in college. It's not easy, but our program provides a variety of services to promote healthy body image, media literacy, balanced physical activity and eating habits. Healthy Eating And Living (HEAL) Interns trained through our academic classes offer presentations about healthy eating on the run and coping with pressure to be thin. Free individual appointments with a registered dietitian are available and are always confidential. For an appointment call 893-3371.
Eating Disorders
At UCSB, negative relationships with body image, food, or exercise affect the lives of both women and men. Even being a friend, roommate or partner of someone with an eating disorder means your life is affected too. FREE, confidential help is available for students concerned about their own or another person's eating or exercise habits. Call 893-3371 for an appointment.
Stress Management Program
Stress is part of student life. This program helps students learn positive ways of dealing with their stress. Physicians and nurse practitioners are available for stress related medical care. Psychiatric appointments may also be made by referral. In addition, free confidential stress-management counseling is available for students wishing to discuss a stress-related problem or skills development. For an appointment call 893-3371.
Isla Vista Medical Clinic
This is the only primary care health clinic in Isla Vista. The clinic is open six days a week, offering a variety of services oriented toward prevention. The staff accepts walk-in patients and appointments and conducts all services in strict confidence. Services include physical exams, general family practice, pediatrics, family planning, immunizations, and HIV/AIDS testing. 970 Embarcadero del Mar, Isla Vista. For more information or to set an appointment, call 968-1511 ext. 102.
USHIP (Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Plan)
The UC Regents require all registered students to be covered by major medical health insurance while attending school. Students are automatically enrolled in USHIP unless they complete a waiver form and provide proof of comparable coverage. The waiver form must be submitted each year by the specified deadline. Unless a waiver is granted, students are charged a health insurance fee as part of their registration. USHIP provides a complete health care package when combined with the services available through Student Health, located on campus. In addition, USHIP is portable, meaning that students receive excellent coverage whether they are on campus, at home or traveling. For further information, call Student Health at 893-2592 to speak with an insurance advisor.
Payment Plan for Non-USHIP Members
PATH (Prepaid Access To HealthCare) is an alternative method to pay for health services if you are not already enrolled in USHIP. Rather than paying for each visit, students can pre-pay their fees. You can see a practitioner and utilize the lab or x-ray as many times as needed without paying the visit or processing fees. By prepaying for services, you can maximize preventive care and access treatment by minimizing financial barriers. For students on financial aid, monies are allocated for health care and can be applied to PATH. For more information, call 893-8141.
