Diversity

The UCSB community may be more or less diverse than your home community, but it will no doubt be different in many ways. Graphs and charts can only represent the kinds of diversity that are quantifiable, but the following information should provide you with a sense of the make-up of the campus community.

UCSB has some ground to cover before our campus population is as diverse as the State of California, but each year improvements are made on all fronts through the efforts of concerned students, faculty, and the administration. You might be interested to know that UCSB has more than doubled the percentage of enrolled undergraduate ethnic minority students in the last twenty years.

Students with Disabilities

The breakdown of students who have chosen to use the services offered by the Disabled Students Program is as follows:

  • Visually Impaired

Sexual Orientation

Although there is no way to represent statistics on the sexual orientation of students, staff, and faculty in the UCSB community, research in the general population indicates that anywhere from 10% to 15% of the population identifies themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual.
